GREENBURGH, NY-Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano revealed that it is among a group of entities that will acquire approximately 45 acres here from Ginsburg Development Corp., of Hawthorne so that it can be preserved as open space. The $2.5 million land acquisition deal will ensure that the property will be used for open space, according to Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano, who formally asked the Westchester County Board of Legislators to approve the proposal on Tuesday, June 26.

The plan calls for the county and town to purchase a 26.4-acre property known as Glenville Woods and for the Open Space Conservancy to acquire an adjoining 18.3 acres and lease the property to the town. The town will operate and maintain both parcels of land, for public park use, open to all county residents, Westchester County officials relate. As part of the arrangement, the town of Greenburgh has agreed to take over the repair, maintenance and operation of county roads within its boundaries, except for Ardsley Road and to work with the county to create more affordable housing within its boundaries.

County Executive Spano says concerning the deal, “Purchasing these lands adjacent to the Tarrytown Lakes will not only enhance county parkland in central Westchester, but it will expand and protect the very important greenbelt along the Saw Mill River Parkway. This will make for a beautiful walk in the woods, with the property’s majestic vistas and forests with magnificent trees.”
