ADCS Inc., a high-tech company specializing in data capture and document conversion, plans to begin construction of $7.9 million two-story office building in November. Completion is slated for March 2002.

The project will include state-of-the-art energy saving equipment, including a photovoltaic solar collecting system. San Diego-based Smith Consulting Architects has been awarded the contract for the architectural and interior design.

Scott Cairns of Smith Consulting Architects is serving as principal-in-charge, with Jon Ohlson as project architect, Gary Baker as principal-in-charge of building design and Grant Evans as exterior job captain. Randy Bennett of CB Richard Ellis is the construction manager for ADCS.

The build-to-suit is the latest example of companies migrating to the Poway area to escape the high rents of coastal office and industrial markets like Sorrento Mesa, Sorrento Valley and La Jolla. In the most vivid example, Gateway Inc., one of the city's largest public companies, plans to move this fall from the University Towne Center area to an industrial park in Poway.
