Northern Arizona Healthcare, the hospital's not-for-profit owner, is building a three-story Women and Infants Center and four-level, 400-vehicle parking garage. The campus is located along Beaver Street in the city's northern corridor. Work already is under way on West Tower, a four-story medical office building. The building will house administrative offices, medical offices, children's health facilities, rehabilitation therapy and possibly more hospital beds. A third-floor sky bridge will connect West Tower and the Women's Center. The tower is expected to be completed by March 2002.

Additional renovation is being done on the second floor of the East Campus. The work includes adding more critical care beds, medical-surgical beds, relocation of the pediatric unit, a new angiography room and expansion of the pharmacy. Phoenix-based Kitchell Contractors, which built the hospital in 1987, is the general contractor on the project, which has been designed by Phoenix-based Devenney Group.

Flagstaff Medical Center is the largest hospital in northern Arizona and is a regional referral center. The hospital employs more than 1,000 people. Flagstaff is about 120 miles north of Phoenix and has a population of about 50,000.
