Located on the San Mateo coast, less than a quarter mile from the junction of state Highways 1 and 84, the area consists of meadows, agricultural fields and rolling hills.

The property, known as San Gregorio Farms, was acquired from private owners and will connect three other protected properties to create 3.5 continuous miles of open space along Highway 1.

There are currently several homes and a hay production business on the land, which the Peninsula Open Space Trust intends to allow remaining on the property. Further commercial and residential development will be prohibited in an effort to preserve the area's wildlife habitat resources.

San Gregorio Properties is the fifth property acquired by the land trust in its "Saving the Endangered Coast" campaign; a $200 million campaign dedicated to preserving the Peninsula's natural properties. The land trust is seeking state support and funding to help achieve their goal of adding San Gregorio Farms to the state park system.
