3M has expanded from 28,000 sf to 56,000 sf in Building No. 10 at the park. Park owner Crown West Realty LLC's in-house Margie McHugill negotiated the transaction.
Part of 3M's Traffic Control Materials Division, 3M Dynamic Messaging plans to begin producing two new "active school-zone signs" next month. One is a sign that gives motorists passing through a school zone the speed limit that is being enforced in the zone at that time. The other is a driver-feedback speed sign that tells motorists how fast they're going and activates flashing warning lights when they're exceeding the posted speed by more than 5 mph.
3M says it also will begin production of some larger versions of the sign for highway and freeway use. They include variable "time-to-destination" signs for use in areas with heavy traffic congestion, and priority-control road signs that can forewarn motorists of approaching emergency vehicles.
3M is a $16 billion company with operations in more than 60 countries. It currently employs about 58 people in Spokane. It expects to add 10 to 12 employees to help handle the increased assembly-line work.
