Sources say that Yves Saint Laurent chose the property at Maiden Lane mainly because of its location, which is right off of Stockton Street in downtown San Francisco.
"Maiden Lane is a very prominent shopping area of Union Square," said Linda Mjellem of Union Square Association. "We have a great concentration of high-end retail stores. In this case, it's location, location, location."
Gucci, which acquired Yves Saint Laurent two years ago, has appointed Tom Ford, its creative director, to design the store, which will consist of a 3,400 SF selling space.
The terms of the lease are confidential. Johnson Hoke Retail Leasing and Development represented YCS in the deal.
