The complex, located at 625 North Road (Route 117) in Groton, is set on a footprint of 2.5 acres and adjacent to the 14 acre Mystic Executive Park, which will be the site of a four story, 104,000 sf office building. In addition to Governor Rowland, Bill Munck, vice president, New England market for Marriott International and Teresa McKee, senior vice president of operations for Elizabeth Arden Salon Holdings Inc., officiated at the grand opening ceremony.
The Mystic Marriott boasts a 10,000 sf, Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa. The spa is the third resort facility for Elizabeth Arden and its first in the state of Connecticut. The Elizabeth Arden Red Door at the Mystic Marriott features "relaxation and serenity rooms" a spa cafe, a juice and elixir bar, fitness center and retail boutique.
The complex also features two ballrooms and nine conference rooms totaling 25,000 sf of space and the area's first Starbucks Coffee bar. The property employs approximately 250 workers.
The hotel offers 285 rooms and is complemented by a fitness center, business center, executive boardrooms, concierge level with lounge, airport and attraction shuttle transportation, as well as services for catering, banquet and audio-visual needs. Room rates for the hotel, designed to attract major corporations, conference planners and the upscale leisure market, range from $189 to $240 per night. The hotel also contains the 145-seat Octagon restaurant, which was developed by CB5, a high-concept restaurant development firm.
All of the parties involved in the development of the hotel will serve similar roles in the development of the Mystic Executive Park office building, according to officials with the Waterford Hotel Group. The project, which is fully approved, has not broken ground as yet as the parties are currently marketing the property to prospective tenants.
The Marriott Mystic is the tenth Marriott franchise for Waterford Hotel Group Inc., which manages 26 hotel properties in 10 states. Locally, the firm, which began operations in 1984, manages the Residence Inn by Marriott in Danbury and the Four Points Hotel by Sheraton in Norwalk.
