Commission Mulls $44-Mil Mixed-Use Projects

DETROIT-A public hearing is held on rezoning for a college technology park and the New Amsterdam project. The multi-phase project would include $44 in new development, including an industrial park.

DETROIT-The New Center Council Inc., WSU, Henry Ford Health System and other developers have plans develop a tech park. The Detroit planning commission has held a public hearing on rezoning the property bounded by I-94, Woodward Avenue and the Ford Freeway for the mixed-use New Amsterdam project and the Wayne State University Technology Park.

The first phase would consist of 140,000 sf of research, development and office space in the former Chevrolet Creative Studies building at 440 Burroughs Street. The building was donated to WSU by the General Motors Corp.

A 600-car parking structure will be built nearby, with space for retailreserved on the ground floor. The two projects total $18 million.
