The Johnson/Hines collaborations include Pennzoil Place (Houston, 1975), 101 California (San Francisco, 1984) and 191 Peachtree Tower (Atlanta, 1991).

Johnson's 95th birthday was commemorated the day before at the Four Seasons restaurant, which he designed, and which is the only landmarked interior in New York City. He also worked with Mies van der Rohe on the design of the Seagram Building, the principal exemplar of the International Style of architecture and site of the Four Seasons.

Hines is the founder and chairman of Hines, a family-owned developer of office buildings, industrial facilities and resort and residential communities. Based in Houston, the firm has a portfolio of more than 660 properties with over 212 million sf of space and assets in excess of $10 billion.

Proceeds from yesterday's event will go to the Center for Architecture, a project of the American Institute of Architect's New York Chapter and the NY Foundation for Architecture. The center, located at 534 LaGuardia Place here, is slated to open in December 2002.
