NEW YORK CITY-Architect Philip Johnson and developer Gerald D. Hines were celebrated at the Guggenheim Museum here last evening (July 12) for their collaboration during the last 30 years, which has been responsible for some of the most distinguished buildings of the 20th century. Celebrants included architects Frank Gehry, David Childs, Cesar Pelli and Richard Meier. The museum was designed by another of America’s most famous architects, Frank Lloyd Wright.

The Johnson/Hines collaborations include Pennzoil Place (Houston, 1975), 101 California (San Francisco, 1984) and 191 Peachtree Tower (Atlanta, 1991).

Johnson’s 95th birthday was commemorated the day before at the Four Seasons restaurant, which he designed, and which is the only landmarked interior in New York City. He also worked with Mies van der Rohe on the design of the Seagram Building, the principal exemplar of the International Style of architecture and site of the Four Seasons.
