That is more than double the money UNC has spent on capital construction in the quarter of a century before President Hank Brown, a former US Senator from Colorado, took office in 1998.

The biggest single project in UNC's history is the $33-million renovation and expansion of Ross Hall, the university's math and science building. The Michener Library, named after author James Michener, also will be renovated.

UNC's buildings currently have a wide mix of architectural styles, but it plans a more consistent style of red brick and stone archways, found at the University of Colorado-Boulder and the private University of Denver.
