Property Top Performer Over One, Three and Five Years

LONDON-New research from the Association of Property Unit Trusts and HSBC shows that property performance now outstrips equities and bonds in both the short and medium terms.

LONDON-UK Property is still outperforming equities and bonds and providing investors with positive absolute returns, according to performance figures released by the Association of Property Unit Trusts and HSBC. The APUT/HSBC Pooled Property Fund Indices showed a return for the year to June of +9.0% compared to -7.8% for the FTSE All Share Index and +4.5% for the FTSE 5-15 year Gilt (government bond) Index.

And this outperformance is repeated over the longer term. Property is now the top performing UK asset class over the last three and five years. Over the past three years property has produced an annual total return of 11.9% compared with 2.2% for equities and 6.2% for bonds. And over five years, property has produced 13.1% per annum, against 11.0% for equities and 9.1% for bonds.
