Nearly 200 jobs will be eliminated as the ski manufacturing business relocates to Guangzhou, in the southeast corner of China. Company officials say the relocation is necessary to remain competitive in the industry.

K2 Corp. has maintained a presence on Vashon Island for decades. It is a recreational subsidiary of K2 Inc., which will remain headquartered in Los Angeles. Two years ago, K2 Corp. began moving the majority of the Vashon ski production division, as well as the manufacturing of snowboards, to its plant in Guangzhou.

After the move is complete in September, about 250 employees in the marketing, engineering, research and development, distribution and sales departments will work out of the Vashon offices.
