The study concludes that Eagan, MN-based Northwest Airlines provides more than 21,000 Minnesota jobs representing $1.2 billion in wages. In addition, the airline spends more than $2 billion annually on flight-related goods and services.
"Airline hubs have a substantial positive impact on the economic health of a region," says former Gov. Arne Carlson, a co-chair of the joint task group who is now chairman and CEO of American Express Funds. "Those factors,combined with the stimulation of jobs and industries surrounding a hub, mean that losing hub status would be catastrophic to our entire region."
The Hub City Task Force report was prepared by Daniel M. Kasper, managing director of the Cambridge, MA office of LECG, Inc., a consulting firm that specializes in economics, finance and public policy.
