Investigators: Councilman Broke Conflict-of-Interest Laws

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA-City Councilman Dave Garofalo improperly voted on more than 200 local issues, the Orange County district attorney's office says. Many of the questionable votes supported big real estate projects.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA-County investigators here say that a city councilman who cast favorable votes on several local real estate projects frequently violated conflict-of-interest laws and failed to report more than $25,000 on state-required financial disclosure forms.

The allegations against Councilman Dave Garofalo were made in an unusually long, 517-page request for a search warrant filed by the Orange County district attorney’s office. The documents say Garofalo improperly voted more than 200 times on various issues, and used his position on the city council as leverage to collect advertising revenue for a small community newspaper that he used to publish.
