DETROIT-General Motors Corp. has modified plans for a large mixed-use complex inthe Rivereast District of Downtown. The company, which owns the neighboring 1-million-sf, five-tower, office/hotel Renaissance Center, had planned on building a 2,000-space parking structure with retail and attached office tower in the area of Beaubien, Atwater and St. Antoine streets.

However, because the automaker decided against relocating its e-commerce division from its former headquarters at the GM Tech Plant on Van Dyke Avenue in Warren, MI, the company decided to eliminate the three-story office tower and one of the two levels of underground parking. The company instead is adding a single level of above-ground parking to the seven-story parking garage and an increased retail area.
