Loews announced last January the closing 112 locations comprising more than 650 screens. The following month, Loews filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and closed City Centre theater in Seattle and another in Tacoma. Loews still owns and operates about 10 theaters throughout the Puget Sound region.
The company could not immediately be reached for comment on when the Southcenter theater will close. A land-use sign on stand-alone states that the 1,228-seat theater will be razed and replaced with a restaurant called Bahama Breeze. Mall owner R.E. Jacobs Group submitted an application for the proposed land use action in June.
