Apartment rents in the Rose City grew 8.2%, or nearly twice the national increase of 4.6% for the first quarter of 2001, according to the report. California cities, meanwhile, claimed five of the top 10 spots, with San Jose topping the list with a 21.2% increase.
Thanks to the slowing economy, however, none of these numbers are breaking any records. The 4.6% nationwide average for the first-quarter is down a full half-point from the 5.1% posted in 2000.
