Television Station Relocating HQ Downtown

SAN DIEGO-New Downtown offices, a broadcast studio, and production facilities for the NBC-owned and operated television station NBC 7/39 are nearly on the air. Plans include creating a street-side studio and newsroom with windows facing the Horton Plaza Shopping Center and Broadway.

SAN DIEGO-Johnson & Jennings General Contracting has been awarded a $3.1 million construction management contract to build out new Downtown offices, a broadcast studio, and production facilities for the NBC-owned and operated television station NBC 7/39.

After 35 years in Kearny Mesa, KNSD-TV will relocate this fall to 225 Broadway, the former Home Savings Tower, adjacent to Horton Plaza and the Gaslamp district. The station will occupy 26,000 square feet of usable space. Plans include creating a street-side studio and newsroom with windows facing the Horton Plaza Shopping Center and Broadway.

The design of the facility will be similar to that of NBC’s TODAY Show in New York City’s Rockefeller Center, and like the TODAY Show, NBC 7/39 will capture the outdoor flavor and interaction with the surrounding area. Over 14 million visitors pass through the Horton Plaza vicinity each year.
