The 97,00-sf store is an anchor at FlatIron.
Next on tap is an 80,000-sf, two-level store in Park Meadows, a regional mall in fast-growing Douglas County. The Gaylan's will replace a closed six-screen United Artists movie theater and an arcade that closed.
The space, in the center of the mall, which faces a food court, didn't work for the movie theater chain because people didn't like to fight the mall crowds to reach it. Instead, the flocked to a nearby and larger AMC movie theater outside of Park Meadows, as well as to a UA theater on a separate pad near the mall.
But the space is considered one of the hottest sites in the mall for a more traditional retailer.
Gaylan's sell outdoor and sports equipment and clothing. In the Denver area, its competition includes Gart Sports and Recreational Equipment Inc.
