Sullivan County Granted Economic Development Zone Status

MAMAKATING, NY-At an event to acknowledge a $40 million investment by Kohl's retail chain here, New York Governor George Pataki reported that a section of Sullivan County has been designated an economic development zone.

MAMAKATNG, NY-The troubled Sullivan County economy got a boost on Monday (July 30) when Governor George Pataki announced that an area of the county has been selected as the state’s 55th economic development zone.

The Sullivan County zone includes portions of the Village of Monticello’s Central Business District, the Kohl’s site in the Town of Mamakating and the “shovel-ready” Emerald Corporate Center in the Town of Thompson, according to state officials.

The designation, which offers a host of tax incentives to firms that relocate to the area, expand or engage in new construction, is expected to generate approximately $300 million in new investment to Sullivan County and create more than 2,000 jobs, according to Pataki.
