The entire structure was redesigned and renovated.
Nine robots designed and built by local students for the FIRST Robotics Competition cut the ribbon for the new center Saturday.
"In Michigan, there has never been a such a comprehensive science center where future engineers could enrich their imagination and explore the possibilities of science and technology," says Francois Castaing, chairman of the center.
The project design and build team was Neumann Smith and Associates, BEI Associates, Russell Design and Walbridge Aldinger.
The center serves an estimated 500,000 visitors per year.
