Regency is the leading national owner, operator, and developer focused on grocery-anchored, neighborhood retail centers. Regency's total assets exceed $3 billion and include 260 retail properties totaling 27.9 million sf.

Zenaida Garvey, property administrator for Regency Centers and longtime employee of El Cerrito Plaza, says the center has undergone tremendous change to keep up with the growth of the city. Garvey, at the shopping center since 1981, says the renovations will once again turn El Cerrito Plaza into the downtown and heart of El Cerrito.

"When Regency came on board during the summer of 2000, we didn't know what to expect as far as the success of the center," says Garvey, "but now the nearly finished development is sure to be a revival of the past success of El Cerrito Plaza."

Tom Engberg, Regency's senior vice president of investments says new store openings at the mall will begin this fall and continue into the spring of 2002. New anchor tenants will include Macaroni Grill, Bed Bath & Beyond and Ross, which has led to many of the current retail tenants choosing to continue their leases with El Cerrito Plaza. Annual lease rates at the plaza range from $32 per sf to $40 per sf.
