A Washington REIT spokeswoman told GlobeSt.com that the deal did not require Cogent to wire or provide equipment for any of the buildings, because they were already equipped.
Cogent is a private company, based in Washington, which has raised nearly $500 million in financing to build its network. The company offers services in 11 markets and hopes to be in 20 markets by the end of 2001.
One of the company's chief rivals is another local provider, eLink Communications. ELink wires older buildings for high-speed services, as well as offering services through exclusive arrangements with office property owners.
