The purchases will provide uninterrupted supplies of concrete and sand and gravel to the communities of the Western Slope, according to Steve Wood, vice president and general manager of LaFarge's Western Slope division.

LaFarge has operated in Pitkin County, where Aspen is located, for more than 20 years, Eagle County for more than 25 years and Garfield County, which is next to Pitkin County, for more than 25 years.

"Our efficient size and sound knowledge of the local markets means our operations can respond quickly and efficiently to our customer demand,'' Wood says.

LaFarge was founded in Canada in 1909. It currently is based in Herndon, VA. Last year, it had $2.79 billion in net sales.
