FRESNO, CA-The University of California, San Francisco-Fresno medical center is receiving $26 million from the state to build a high-tech medical education and research center in Fresno – the first of its kind in the Central Valley. Construction is scheduled to begin in May 2002 and expected to be complete by January 2004.

UCSF plans to construct a 60,000 SF medical education and facility center in downtown Fresno that will house all residents, medical faculty and staff. The center will feature telemedicine and various methods of standardized patient care, in addition to an outdoor, wireless amphitheatre.

Cara Douglas, director public affairs for the university, tells GlobeSt.com that the proposal has been in the works for at least three years. The university had to conduct studies and get approval locally before the plan was proposed to the state.
