Industrial Availability on the Increase

LONDON-Industrial vacancies are beginning to rise again as the economy slows. The latest industrial floorspace survey from King Sturge shows vacancies up 10.3% year-on-year, with 157 million sf now available across Great Britain.

LONDON-The amount of empty factory and warehouse space in Great Britain has increased by 7.7% since December 2000, and by 10.3% since last Summer, according to the latest industrial floorspace survey from King Sturge. The agent calculates that there is now 157 million sf of industrial space available.

It now looks as though the low point in the current cycle occurred in December 1999, and since then vacancies have risen by 13.7%. But the agents point out that voids are still lower than in April 1997 and there is still a shortage of new-built space.
