"Electricity bills for many businesses have already doubled," he added. "Now the legislature is considering a proposal to bail out Southern California Edison by putting most of the cost onto business."
Business owners expressed fear that companies will have to downsize, relocate, or cut back essential utilities. A common complaint among the group was that business and residential customers were not sharing the electricity rate increases equally.
An automobile shop owner spoke out against the rate increases, saying that the state-mandated power reductions forced him to turn the lights down on his lot, resulting in a significant increase in theft and vandalism.
