Three Developers Pitching Plans for 709-Acre Mueller Project

AUSTIN-The city has weeded the pack of six developers vying for the 709-acre Mueller redevelopment project. The short list consists of Catellus, Lennar Corp. and the Mueller Redevelopment Team, the only one that's based in Austin.

AUSTIN-Three developers, selected from a field of six, will get a chance to make detailed proposals for developing the 709-acre site of Austin’s former Robert Muller Municipal Airport. They are San Francisco-based Catellus Development Corp., Miami-based Lennar Corp. and Austin-based Mueller Redevelopment Team.

Once the developers receive the city’s request for a business proposal, they’ll have 90 days to submit their plans, according to David Kreider, a city staff member working on the project. While a general plan has already been put together, the developers are to come back with more details such as how they would finance parts of it and how they’d deal with open spaces on the site. The city staff will study those proposals, due in December, and ultimately recommend one developer to the city council next year.
