$10-Mil Pavilion Coming to State Fairgrounds

SALEM, OR-A change in plans for $10 million in bonds approved for the fairgrounds by the 2001 Legislature will result in an 8,000-seat pavilion where an unsafe grandstand now sits. The project is set for a ground breaking next year and completion in about two years.

SALEM, OR-The Legislative Emergency Board will vote next month on a new 8,000-capacity pavilion to replace an unsafe grandstand at the Oregon State Fairgrounds in northeast Salem. If approved at its meeting scheduled for Sept. 6-7, demolition and construction could start next year en route to an opening in 2003.

The 2001 Legislature authorized the sale of $10 million in bonds for use in replacing an unsafe grandstand on the fairgrounds. The pavilion project was recommended by a legislative task force that decided against using the money to enclose L.B. Day Amphitheater, remodel the Salem Armory and build an all-weather sports field.
