The two associations are establishing a public access defibrillation, or PAD, program to provide early CPR and defibrillation, using automatic external defibrillators.

AEDs are computerized devices that can shock a heart that been stopped by an abnormal rhythm.

BOMA researched doing such a program for six months before approving it at the association's annual convention in Baltimore in June.

The program, which is voluntary, is designed to train non-emergency medical personnel, and give those persons the ability to perform CPR and use and AED.
