"The Lakes Mall is one of only 11 new malls opening in the country this year," says CBL president Stephen Lebovitz. The mall was developed under a joint venture with David Hocker & Associates of Owensboro, KY.

Among 71 stores that opened were three anchor department stores including JCPenney (106,731 sf), Sears (115,600 sf) and Younkers (106,131 sf).

Construction financing for the retailing complex was provided by US Bank of Minneapolis. It's the eighth shopping center development that US Bank has financed for CBL & Associates Properties.

KA Architects of Cleveland served as the design architects for the mall. General contractor for the regional mall was EMJ Corp.

With the new mall in Muskegon, CBL now owns or manages 157 shopping centers in 26 states with more than 57 million sf.

Other shopping centers currently under construction by CBL include Parkway Place (600,000 sf) in Huntsville, AL; Meridian Mall expansion (178,000 sf) in Lansing, MI; Springdale Mall expansion (113,363 sf) in Mobile, AL; Coastal Way expansion (25,715 sf) in Spring Hill, FL; and Chesterfield Crossing expansion (10,700 sf) in Richmond, VA.
