Public Works Projects Feted by Engineers

SAN DIEGO-More than a dozen local projects, including two major public works projects -- the Camino Ruiz Bridge and Lindburgh Field's runway -- won awards late last month from the American Society of Civil Engineers.

SAN DIEGO-More than a dozen local projects have won awards from the American Society of Civil Engineers. The Camino Ruiz Bridge and Lindburgh Field’s runway received honors July 31 from the society, which has 123,000 members worldwide. It gives annual awards for projects that enhance engineering profession and improve quality of life for residents.

Lindbergh Field engineers won for rehabilitating the airport’s only runway while keeping the airport open. Parsons Aviation was the project manager and the project construction manager; Kimley-Horn & Associates was the construction manager and the Law Crandall engineering firm handled materials testing.
