In addition to the 80,000-sf headquarters, Smith & Nephew reportedly intends to expand its facilities here. The building that currently serves as the headquarters will become a 110,000-sf manufacturing facility. In addition, the company's 60,000-sf manufacturing facility in Mansfield will be expanded by 40,000 sf. The company also has a manufacturing and research and development facility in Oklahoma City. The endoscopy division, which was formerly Dyonics, Inc., is a business unit of Smith & Nephew PLC.

The company, which employs 1,000 people, had considered moving out of state a number of years ago but local and state officials were able to convince the company to stay. Reportedly, one of the issues for the company was receiving approval for a sewer hook-up. That approval recently came through, after years of negotiations.
