Coalition Challenges Third Runway Permit

SEATTLE-The Airport Communities Coalition has filed an appeal seeking to overturn a permit issued last week by the state Department of Ecology. The water quality permit was necessary for construction of a third runway at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

SEATTLE-A neighborhood group has challenged a water quality permit issued last week by the Department of Ecology. The permit, one of the last remaining hurdles toward the construction of a third runway at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, has formally been appealed to the Pollution Control Hearings Board.

The Airport Communities Coalition, which has battled airport expansion for years, has accused the DOE of bowing to political pressure. Bob Sheckler, ACC chairman, said the DOE based its decision to issue the permit on politics rather than science.

“This is wrong, and we will do everything in our power to restore integrity to the environmental decision-making process,” Sheckler says.
