Construction Starts on $360-Mil Power Plant

CHEHALIS, WA-A Houston-based company has begun building a $360-million natural gas-fired power plant midway between Seattle and Portland in Lewis County. The 505-megawatt facility is slated to begin operation in late 2003.

CHEHALIS, WA-Tractebel Project Development Inc., the Houston-based arm of a Belgian company, has begun building a natural gas-fired power plant on 31 acres along the Interstate-5 corridor, near here.

Once construction is complete, sometime in late 2003, the plant will utilize a multiple cell air condenser to minimize water usage and will be among the cleanest and most efficient electric power resources in the state. Energy generated from the facility will be sold directly into the Northwest Power Pool.

“These state-of-the-art facilities will provide clean and reliable energy at competitive prices in regions where the energy is most critically needed, William Utt, president and chief executive officer of Tractebel North America, Inc. said in announcing news of construction of both the Chehalis plant and another 720-megawatt plant in Wise County, TX.
