The company said the closing of the Austin, Cincinnati, Riverside and San Rafael, CA offices "would minimize the impact a softening US economy is having on the bottom line," Harold Imhoff, General Employment's chairman and CEO, said in a prepared statement. With the closings General Employment has 37 branch offices.

General Employment specializes in staffing for information technology, engineering and accounting workers, areas in which demand has suffered with the fall off in the economy's technology sector.

The Cielo Center, three six-story buildings totaling 270,711 sf, is owned by Prentiss Properties Trust, based in Dallas. Prentiss has five Austin office projects with a total of 1.8 million sf and two other office buildings under development.
