Carter will now own CNM Associates, previously co-owned by Ronus and Carter, and will continue to manage third-party and other Ben Carter assets in the CNM portfolio. Ronus Properties begins operations in the fourth quarter.

Ronus assets comprise 19 retail centers and the class A, 90,000-sf Forum office building within Buckhead's Piazza at Paces mixed-use community.

The parting between Ronus and Carter was amiable. "Strategically, this decision makes sense for everyone involved," Ronus Inc. president Bob Anderson says in a prepared statement. "Ronus Properties has a sound and diverse real estate portfolio it wants to expand upon steadily."

In the same statement, Ben Carter, CEO of CNM, Ben Carter Properties and Ben Carter Associates, says the split "will mean heightened focus for CNM and Ben Carter Properties, allowing us to build upon the strong stability and momentum we already have in our markets."

Besides Anderson, other Ronus Properties officers are Ronald de Waal, chairman; Steve Cooper and Richard Markham, senior vice presidents/asset management; and Gina Adkins, vice president, marketing. The company has regional offices in Washington, DC; Cary, NC; Charlotte; and Houston.
