The building at 515 S. Cascade Ave. was developed by Winfield Scott Stratton in 1901 to use as trolley barns and shops. It was equipped for maintaining street railway equipment throughout the West.
By 1932, however, the trolley lines were replaced by buses and the building was used for a variety of other uses.
Murphy Constructors of the Springs restored the landmark building. The new location provides easier access off Interstate 25 to Cimarron Street, where the visitor information signage has better visibility. There also is more parking.
The visitor information center draws an average of 47,000 tourists each year, with about 8,000 visitors each month during the summer.
The new location is expected to increase visitor traffic by at least 15%.
