Emily Cedarleaf, executive director and governmental affairs representative for the Multifamily Housing Council of Oregon, says the purpose of the seminar is to help landlords and investors make a reasonable return on their investments so that they can continue to provide affordable rental housing. The session also will provide necessary information to property managers, real estate licensees and attorneys to assist them in comprehending the changes that were made in the 1999 Legislative session.
"If you are an on-site manager, property manager, owner or investor of rental property your business is affected with every court ruling on a landlord/tenant case – you need to know the new laws, and how they affect you and your business," says Cedarleaf, the instructor of the seven-hour seminar.
The seminar is will cover landlord/tenant laws for rental properties including these topics: how to survive the legal process; understanding Fair Housing and ADA laws; how to use the correct landlord/tenant forms and notices; what and how disclosures must be made; charges for security deposits and other fees; the "fail-safe" rental agreement; the eviction process; tenant rights and responsibilities; what to do when you suspect illegal and criminal activity; and abandoned property.
A comprehensive manual and workbook plus lunch are included in the seminar cost of $87.50 for members and $115 for non-members. Pre-registration for the seminar is recommended. Please call the Salem office at (503) 378-1640 to register or for more information.
