The Metropolitan Transit Development Board will begin negotiations with property owner Win & Long Times aimed at turning the site on West Bernardo Drive into a $500 million transportation center.
Landowners hoped to build a 138-room Homewood Suites by Hilton. However, about a year ago, the transit board chose the site for a bus station and a 250-car parking lot.
The transit center, which would take up to 10 years to build, is part of a plan to reduce traffic congestion in the I-15 corridor.
