Minneapolis-based M.A. Mortenson, the largest general contractor active in Colorado last year, just finished a $20-million renovation and addition.

"We just turned over the keys to them," Tim Walsh, general manager of Mortenson tells GlobeSt.com. "It was a really interesting project. We drained one of two lakes and built an infinity pool. The pool is a themed pool with a water slide and a cabana built with some new suites."

Nightly rates in the 21 new suites range from $600 to more than $2,000 per night.

Steve Bartolin, president and chief executive officer of the Broadmoor, says this is the third time he's hired Mortenson. The first time it built a 105-room west tower at the resort.

In addition to coming in on time and on budget during a very tight work schedule, he is amazed how accurate they are in pricing a job even before plans are solid.

"I think what may set them aside from some of their competitors is they can look at conceptual drawings, or even incomplete working documents, and give us an estimate that is pretty damn accurate," Bartolin tells GlobeSt.com.
