The store is expected to open in mid 2002, although the headquarters will move in late 2001. Allders has acquired eight new stores in the past year - seven former C&A branches in Oxford Street, Guildford, York, Kingston, Sheffield Meadowhall, Leicester and Watford, together with a newly built store at the Brewery, Romford. The stores have a combined floorspace of over 300,000 sf and the company has a target of adding 1 million sf to its original portfolio.

Allders Chief Executive Harvey Lipsith said: 'The acquisition of a West End store is significant, not just as a further step towards the achievement of our space growth objective, but also in enhancing the profile and perception of the company. The Allders offer will be an exciting addition to the country's most vibrant and competitive retail location.'
