Centura hired Dallas-based HKS as the architect. A general contractor will be hired in the coming weeks.
"Now that we've finalized the purchase of the land and selected an architect, we're ready to move forward with some crucial next steps," says Joseph R. Swedish, Centura Health president and chief executive officer. "In coming months, we will be identifying a name and requesting the assistance of a community advisory group to help determine how the facility can best meet the needs of the community."
The hospital's first phase is expected to be 100 beds, with the capacity to expand to 200 beds. It will include general medical/surgical services, obstetrics, diagnostic imaging, 24-hour emergency services, a nursery and a laboratory. The site also will accommodate 180,000 sf of medical office space for physician practices and parking for 1,500 cars.
Centura Health expects to break ground on the facility next summer. The opening is slated for summer 2004.
The hospital will serve the fast-growing Douglas County area.
Centura was created in 1996 through through a joint operating agreement between Catholic Health Initiatives and the PorterCare Adventist Health System.
