During the year Hercules made four acquisitions. In April 2001 it bought the Baker Lorenz commercial agency which it merged with Dunlop Heywood to form Dunlop Heywood Lorenz. It also extended its insurance brokerage operation, buying three insurance brokers specializing in the property sector.
The Baker Lorenz deal is particularly significant, according to Managing Director Robert Plumb, because it gives Dunlop Heywood - traditionally strong in the North of England - a secure London base.
