Virtually all of them instituted heightened security measures, canceling everything from outside deliveries to cleaning services. Only people who work in the buildings with access cards were allowed in.
Many of the owners, such as Commonwealth and Brookfield, own buildings in other parts of the US, where they also are taking the same precautions.
In Denver, Brookfield is the owner of the 56-story Republic Plaza, the state's largest building, as well as the two World Center Tower buildings.
Brookfield also owns a number of high-rises around the World Trade Center in New York.
Pat Hillary, director of operations for Brookfield in Denver, was speaking with an engineer in New York, who was standing outside one of Brookfield's buildings to see if it was being damaged by falling rubble.
As the engineer stood there, the second jet crashed into the other tower.
