Outgoing flights were cancelled at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport as part of a national stand-down of air traffic. But planes were being allowed to land.
Extra security has been added in all government buildings in Olympia. Similar precautionary steps are being taken at McChord Air Force Base south of Tacoma and U.S. Submarine Base Bangor on Hood Canal.
The Bank of America building Downtown has been evacuated as a precautionary basis. Other evacuations are ongoing in Seattle. The Space Needle has been closed, and Washington State ferries have been closed to cars.
Pursuant to a request from the U.S. Coast Guard, Washington State Ferries serving the greater Puget Sound has limited passengers to foot-traffic only one all but a few routes.
