TACOMA-WA-City staffers are in the process of negotiating with Hollander investments to develop a 175-room hotel on the Greater Tacoma Convention Center site.
Last spring, the City selected M.A. Mortenson Co. to attract private developments such as hotel, retail and housing in and around the convention center site. Mortenson and Hollander Investments are seeking the council's approval to move forward with development plans.
Last week, the city signed a non-binding letter of Intent with Hollander outlining roles and responsibilities of both parties. The hotel would be located along Pacific Avenue and Commerce streets, between South 15th and South 17th streets. The new hotel could open as early as 2003.
City staffers are expected to submit development agreements to the council for a formal and final decision by Dec. 4.
“Hollander Investments has a reputation for building quality facilities and providing stellar customer service,” says Tacoma City Manager Ray Corpuz, Jr. “This hotel can serve the needs of business travelers, tourists and convention-goers alike.”
Bellingham-based Hollander Investments owns and operates three hotels in Washington and one in California. Two of the Washington facilities are located in Puyallup.
