The Sept. 10 accident was on Neptune Road, Osceola County, 25 miles south of Downtown Orlando.
The beam was being pushed into place on the overpass by a 170-foot tall crane and a 140-foot tall crane. Area construction industry officials tell GlobeSt.com on condition of anonymity that each of the cranes should have had a holding capacity of about 50 tons, enough to hold the concrete beam. OSHA officials couldn't be reached at GlobeSt.com's publication deadline.
The cable on the 140-foot crane snapped as the workers were guiding the beam onto the overpass, according to a filed report by the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.
