The local franchiser of the Winston-Salem, NC-based doughnut chain and Darden Corp., the FL-based owner of Olive Garden, have closed on adjacent lots in La Frontera Village, which has Interstate 35 frontage. The lots have been staked for pads. Krispy Kreme is to begin construction soon, with a pre-Christmas opening planned.

The 825,000-sf La Frontera Village is the retail component to the 329-acre La Frontera mixed-used project. David Berndt Interests, based in Dallas, and Developers Diversified Realty of Cleveland are the developers of La Frontera Village.

The La Frontera Olive Garden is the first in Round Rock and third in the Austin area. Darden Corp. also operates Red Lobster and Bahama Breeze restaurants.

There are Austin-area Krispy Kreme stores in northwest Austin along Texas 183 and one in south Austin along Interstate 35. Local franchiser Glazing Saddles is owned by executives from the GSD&M advertising agency and Chuy's Comida Deluxe restaurants.
